Not only did Carlton beat Richmond by 80+ points in front of a packed MCG last night, but our man Jeff Garlett joined an exclusive group by kicking a goal with his very first kick in AFL football. He had a pretty good game racking up 10 disposals, including a couple of marks, some great tackles and of course the goal. It was exciting to watch and well done to him. The day before, there was a great article written about Jeff which really highlights the obstacles he has had to overcome. It's a credit to him that he has come so far.

Carlton today confirmed that Jeff Garlett has been promoted the senior team and will play tomorrow night in the season-opener in front of a sold out crowd at the MCG. Congratulations to the young man from everyone at The Sauce Agency. We're thrilled to be your Player Partner for 2009. Here's to a brilliant debut!

With the Aussie Rules football season upon us, I had to update everyone on the The Sauce Agency's recent sponsorship. In 2007 and 2008, we were proud to support the Carlton Football Club's Jason Saddington. A terrific bloke and a solid defender for the club over a number of years. Sadly for us, he retired at the end of the last year. Best wishes to him and his young family for the future.
However, on the upside, it's allowed us to get involved as a Player Partner with a young indigenous player named Jeff Garlett from Merriden in Western Australia. He was taken as a rookie by Carlton this year and since then has shown some big time raw talent in some pre-season games. Known as a "speedy small forward with uncanny goal sense," he's the sort of player who can really excite the crowd.
Carlton has a couple of spots up for grabs for 'nominated rookies' which means, if he got the nod, he would be available for senior selection in the regular season. The media reports say he is in there with a real shot, so we have our fingers crossed for him.
Alexandra and I are headed down to Melbourne in the first week of April to meet Jeff at Carlton's Guernsey Dinner and also see Carlton play Brisbane. With a bit of luck, Jeff will be selected and we'll get a chance to see him play and even bag a few goals.

18/3/09. Carlton announced it's promotions yesterday and Jeff didn't make the cut. He'll get another opportunity mid-year, so here's hoping. Interestingly, Sam "Sauce" Jacobs (the ironically nicknamed) was nominated. The Sauce was associated with him last year and we wish him all the very best. /dp
